"Saving Lives Through Patient Support and Advocacy."
January 5, 2000
Congressman Jim Moran
2239 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515
Dear Congressman Moran:
We are writing in support of H. Con. Res. 133, that
you recently introduced with Congressmen Spencer
Bachus, Billy Tauzin, Ken Bentsen, Bob Clement and
Mark Sanford.
As you know, H. Con. Res. 133 is a Sense of Congress
Resolution that highlights the disease of colorectal
cancer and the importance of education about screening
and a healthy lifestyle in preventing a disease that
will strike approximately 130,000 men and women in
2000, resulting in approximately 56,000 deaths.
This Sense of Congress is critical in initiating a
dialogue among health educators, physicians, patients
and advocates that will lead to an increase in the
number of individuals that get screened each year.
Colorectal cancer is extremely preventable if polyps
that lead to the cancer are detected and removed, and
it is very curable if the cancer is detected in its
early stages. Since there are very few symptoms
associated with colorectal cancer, regular screening
is essential.
The Senate has passed legislation designating March of
2000 as National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month,
and the undersigned groups strongly support passage of
H.Con. Res. 133 to increase and continue the dialogue
about this cancer.
Thank you for your work to raise awareness about
colorectal cancer. We look forward to working with
you to pass H. Con. Res. 133.
