Take Action for
ProjectMARCH

Dear Volunteer,

ProjectMARCH. On March 26, 2007 we will be marching for the second time on Capitol Hill to convince our legislators AND our President that screening must be for all adults starting at age 18 - not just for those over 50.

Too many people are getting this cancer under the age of 50 - more than 13,000 each year. For a cancer that is nearly 100% preventable by removing polyps, this isn't just sad, it's shameful. When we have the means to stop a disease we must stop it.

Since colon cancer starts as a polyp, and since we have an effective means of finding and removing it, it CAN and MUST be stopped.

In a time when so many have no health insurance, and those that do have it, often find it doesn't adequately cover their medical needs and costs, we can prevent nearly 140,000 cases of cancer each year. AND stop 56,000 deaths. These are the numbers of lives claimed by colon cancer. We want them back. We want it stopped.

Your presence there is needed. And your help is needed in bringing as many people there as possible. If you come by yourself that's enough. If you bring one or more people that's powerful. But set a goal to bring 5 people with you. Talk to groups in your area and ask them to join us that day. TakeProjectMARCH flyers and distribute them to every colorectal surgeon, gastroenterologist, oncologist, radiologist, library, church, and community center.

Consider it. If you don't speak up, who will speak up for you? This is a turning point in the fight against colon cancer. Screening beginning at age 18 would nearly if not entirely wipe out colon cancer in our lifetime.

Will you stand with us at ProjectMARCH and demand that screening be for all adults NOT just some? Without you, your legislators may turn a deaf ear to the need for screening for all adults not just some. Our legislators each want to hear from their own consituents. I cannot have the impact on your legislators that you can. Ten people joining you will have even more impact. A hundred people from your area would guarantee that they will take notice, listen, and take our demand seriously.

What happened to you should not happen to anyone. For the children whose parents have died of colon cancer, and those whose parents will die from it; for the husbands and wives left behind with their grief and those who will be left in grief; for all who have suffered with colon cancer and for all who will - you are needed on Capitol Hill on March 26th, 2007.

Three things must happen if this is to succeed. Each of us must send our story and our screening proposal to every legislator (local, state, federal). Each of us must send our story and the screening proposal to every media outlet - radio, tv, cable, magazines, newspapers. And each of us must make sure that we are there in force on March 26, 2007. If you do your part we can make colon cancer history.

Screening for all. Colon cancer for none.

Peace and good health,

Priscilla A. Savary
Executive Director

P.S. You are needed. Together we will end this cancer. Write your story and let us post it on our website. It will encourage someone who is going through what you went through. Write a check for $100 or what amount you can. 88% of each dollar goes directly to fighting to end this cancer and to support for colon cancer patients. Today 168 people will die because of colon cancer. We can stop that death toll - but only with your help. Copy the flyers enclosed and send them with your story to every media outlet, medical professional and anywhere else that might help get the word out. Now is the time that you are needed. Today 168 families will lose someone to colon cancer. Tomorrow it will happen again. And it will keep happening until everyone of us demands screening for all, colon cancer for none.

Below is a link to our petition we will be presenting to President Bush. Please make copies of it and get as many signatures as you can. As you fill up the sheets send them to:
