Clinical Trials
|
Clinical trials are carefully controlled research studies that test new treatments in people with cancer before they are approved for widespread use. This research forms the foundation for medical advances leading to improved cancer treatments. Nearly all standard treatments started in clinical trials and emerged as a "gold standard" only after proving to be more beneficial than the previous standard.
Research studies offer patients at any stage of cancer an additional treatment option. Many patients with common cancers choose to participate in a clinical trial to take advantage of promising new treatments that may one day prove to be superior to the current standard. No one place lists all of the colon cancer clinical trials. Because of that, in order to insure that you are seeing all possibilities you will need to search many of the engines. If cost is not an issue there are reputable services that will do the search for you and compile the list. This can cost from $500 up. At least one of these services will do it at little or no cost for those in need.

3. National Institute of Health (NIH/NCI)
Pioneering national programs supported by NCI have marked long-term anniversaries in their mission to prevent cancer and provide patients and consumers with state-of-the-art treatments and information. Today approximately 60 NCI-designated cancer centers are translating important research findings into everyday practice. For 20 years, the Community Clinical Oncology Program has brought clinical trials to patients in the communities where they live. Both networks are part of the NCI-supported clinical trials program, in which thousands of physicians enroll approximately 20,000 patients in clinical treatment trials. Efforts are under way to greatly expand access to NCI-supported clinical trials.
